vitamin d and muscular problems; hernias

Vitamin D is crucial for regulating calcium and phosphate levels in the body, but it also influences around 2000 genes involved in different bodily functions beyond just bone health. Did you know that the amount of vitamin D in your body is directly linked to your muscle mass and how well they function? It's true! So, if your vitamin D levels drop, it could potentially increase your chances of developing a direct inguinal hernia.

Vitamin D is linked to various health conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, cancers, and autoimmune diseases like type 1 diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Additionally, there is a belief that vitamin D could impact muscle health. Research suggests that serum levels of vitamin D are connected to muscle mass and functions. It is common for older adults to have lower levels of serum vitamin D due to factors like reduced cellular nutritional intake, increased adipose tissue, decreased cutaneous synthesis, and less time spent outdoors.

People who lack vitamin D often encounter a common issue: the development of hernias or muscle strains at some point in their lives. Maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D is crucial for the health of our bones. It would be surprising if there wasn't an abundance of research supporting this fact. We are already aware that having sufficient vitamin D contributes to improved athletic performance, effortless fat loss, and optimal hormonal balance. Additionally, it even enhances women's experiences during orgasm.

.. but wait there's FAR more than "vitamin D" in your body!

Vitamins A, D, E, and K can interact in different ways when it comes to absorption, metabolism, and biological effects. For instance, vitamin A and E may have antagonistic or synergistic interactions in terms of absorption, while vitamins E and K may show similar interactions in terms of metabolism. Additionally, studies have shown that vitamin A and D can have antagonistic, additive, or synergistic effects when combined, especially during hormonal ligand binding to nuclear receptors. Furthermore, experimental studies have demonstrated that vitamins C and E, known for their antioxidant properties, can have positive interactions both in vitro and in vivo.

Diagnosis Vs Healthy
What's The Difference?
"Diagnosis": "1 ounce of prevention is worth 1 pound of cure" is when your body breaks down the point to fit a specific criteria for 1 or more "dis-eases" to be labelled and then symptoms managed often with drugs and surgeries but rarely getting to the cause of the problem and negative feedback loops never stopped. This is the most expensive outcome.
Healthy: in its present definition, refers to the remarkable ability of biological systems to maintain stability while adapting to fluctuating external circumstances. Here you experience excellent cognitive and physical abilities. The primary method of achieving this is through prevention using a cellular nutritional approach called "medical nutrition." This is the lowest-cost outcome.

Vitamin D plays a crucial role in helping our bodies absorb important minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, iron, and selenium. However, it's important to note that it also aids in the absorption of potentially harmful elements such as lead, arsenic, cobalt, aluminum, cadmium, and strontium. Maintaining optimal levels of vitamin D and essential minerals is essential for our overall health and proper bodily functions. On the other hand, the accumulation of toxic elements can have a negative impact on our physiological well-being. It's clear that vitamin D not only helps us absorb and utilize essential minerals, but it also facilitates the uptake of toxic elements. Additionally, having sufficient levels of essential minerals seems to provide some protection against the absorption of toxic metals.

Having insufficient levels of vitamin D can lead to a multitude of health problems. From weakened bones to autoimmune issues and even diseases associated with obesity, the impact is significant. That's why it's crucial to consider supplementing with vitamin D and soaking up some sunshine. It's not just about preventing health issues, but also reducing the risk of injuries if you have low vitamin D levels. Vitamin D plays a vital role in controlling calcium and phosphate levels in the body, while also impacting over 2000 genes that are essential for various bodily functions beyond bone health.

Did you know that a direct inguinal hernia occurs when the abdominal wall allows visceral contents and adipose tissue to protrude? It's quite interesting to note that about 27% of men and 3% of women have the potential to develop an inguinal hernia at some point in their lives. Factors such as being male, getting older, being obese, having increased intraabdominal pressure, or having connective tissue disorders can increase the risk. Inguinal hernia repair is actually one of the most common surgical procedures performed worldwide. It's important to address inguinal hernias promptly as they can lead to complications like strangulation and obstruction due to incarceration.

The abdominal wall is made up of several layers, including the skin, subcutaneous tissue, Scarpa and Camper fascias, external oblique fascia and muscle, internal oblique fascia and muscle, transversus abdominis muscle, transversalis fascia, preperitoneal fat, and peritoneum. If any of these layers in the groin area become weak, it can result in an inguinal hernia. Every year, around twenty million patients undergo surgical repair for inguinal hernias worldwide. The main goal of these surgical techniques is to provide access to the affected area of the groin through the abdominal wall. The ultimate aim of treatment is to ensure a quick recovery, minimize complications, and keep the costs as low as possible.

The formation of hernias is still a topic of debate among experts, as the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. However, one widely accepted risk factor for hernias is increased pressure within the abdomen. This has been recognized as a significant factor for the past two centuries. Various factors contribute to the development of hernias, including certain collagen disorders like Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and osteogenesis imperfecta. Other factors include cellular nutritional imbalances (this is a very large factor often omitted by reductionist "conventional" studies) collagen deficiencies, chronic coughing, straining during urination and bowel movements, heavy lifting, excessive fluid in the abdomen, abdominal tumors, and cellular factors such as increased protease activity, decreased hydroxyproline levels, and an increase in type III collagen.

In a captivating study conducted during the NFL Scouting Combine(Source), a total of 216 college football players were carefully examined. The primary objective was to establish a possible connection between vitamin D levels and the occurrence of muscle strains, spasms, and sports hernias, also known as core muscle injuries. Upon analyzing the blood tests, the researchers stumbled upon a remarkable finding. Among the 216 players, a significant 126 of them displayed unusually low levels of vitamin D in their serum. What's more, 22 players suffered from severe deficiency. Consequently, these individuals faced an elevated risk of experiencing muscle pull injuries and sports hernias.

It is crucial to maintain the normal value of vitamin D in our bloodstream for the sake of our bones and muscles. According to the study, athletes who had lower levels of vitamin D in their blood were found to be at a higher risk of experiencing lower extremity muscle strain or core muscle injury. This suggests that there may be physiological changes occurring in these athletes during muscle composition when they have insufficient levels of vitamin D.

Vitamin D levels in the blood are classified as follows:

Normal (32 ng/mL), Insufficient (20-31 ng/mL), and Deficient (Below 20 ng/mL).

Therefore, it is evident that maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D is not only important for overall health but also plays a role in preventing muscle strains, bone pain, and hernias.

What are some cellular nutritional sources of Vitamin D?

There are many ways obtaining Vitamin D as well as methods of introducing sufficient amounts into the body but the main focus on 'nutritional' studies revolves around obtaining it in food.  While this may be a good, 'natural' way of doing so we often don't obtain sufficient amounts of it with regular frequency, and due to many factors including bad gut health, we don't absord enough of it even if we consume it by mouth.

An increasingly popular way to introduce sufficient amounts of various nutrients the body doesn't reliably or whatsoever make on its own is via an injectable format, but there's also trans-dermal patches as well.  These methods virtually are never available in retail format at your local health food store or pharmacy, and are virtually only available via prescription of a recognized, state-controlled practitioner but these are often out of reach for most people.

Is Vitamin D the only substance you need to focus on? Nowhere close!

Many people still view individual supplements in the way they view medication from their Medical Doctors and sick-care practitioners: they think taking only 1 substance for some nebulous condition or set of conditions is all they need to be concerned about.  They still view their body as a piece of machinery just as their 'conventional' practitioners do: they treat a handful or less of symptoms without much analysis into the side effects and other metabolic cellular factors coming into play.

They also still think the word 'nutrition' is something tame and only about inserting a 'magical' food, drink or supplement for less than a handful of concerns;  For most people this is often weight management, aesthetic (looking food) concerns without much thought about such things as the measurement concentrations of these substances they maintain a singular focus on.

Financial cost is also a huge factor with many people when they think about all the supplements they imagine they will have to take.  They aren't sure what they need to take mainly because their medical doctor doesn't specialize in individualized cellular nutritional analysis in their reductionist, acute training.  If people knew exactly what their bodies needed in terms of diet, supplementation, mitigation of environmental factors along with many other  factors such as dental health they would see it costs much less when your health is individualized especially over the long term when we consider the gamut of health, dental, musculuar-skeletal and other singular health factors.

Especially in these challenging times, a lot of individuals find it difficult to afford basic necessities like food. However, the truth is that obtaining healthy, nourishing food and beverages, as well as making lifestyle changes and incorporating supplements, can be more affordable than we realize. When we are in survival mode, we tend to isolate ourselves, become fixated on saving money, and neglect our physical and mental well-being, leading to a harmful cycle of negativity that can result in various issues.

Some of these issues frequently are reaching for alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, marijuana and even illegal street drugs while at the same time claiming we don't have the time or money to invest in our health.  It's part of the contradictory thinking that plagues especially Western societies and breaking free from this cycle is crucial, and it doesn't require as much time or money as one might assume!
